Kai in the Holidays - December Food Drive Part III
This year has hit many in our region a little harder than usual.
We need your help.
Many organisations and groups who usually support people needing food support are taking a well-deserved break for Christmas and New Year. Community volunteers are stepping in to provide food support for those who need it during this time.
From the week before Christmas to January 5th, we are collecting essential food items to share (non-perishables like canned proteins, rice, pasta, and peanut butter, which are shelf-stable and provide essential nutrition).
Your donation is immediate and vital. 100% of the food collected goes directly to families who need it most during this period. Any surplus will top up the essential supplies at the Nelson Community Foodbank, extending your care well into the New Year.
How to donate:
You can drop off your Kai and donations at All Saints Anglican Church, 30A Vanguard Street, Nelson at the below times/dates.
2-4pm, 19th December
12-3pm, 22nd-24th December
12-3pm, 29th-31st December.
Collecting a large amount at your workplace? We will happily come and collect it from you
If it’s easier to donate some money, you can do that through the Nelson Community Foodbank’s Givealittle page
Email KaiInTheHolidays@gmail.com or text 027 457 6513 and we will be in touch to arrange kai/food drop off/collection.
* Kai in the Holidays is organised by Ngā Ringa Toha, a network of local organisations working together to improve food access and security for our community. The network includes: Nelson Community Food Bank Trust, Kai Rescue | Nelson Environment Centre, SANITI, Tāhunanui Community Hub, Victory Community Centre, Te Piki Oranga, Te Korowai Trust, Te Kotahi o Te Tauihu Charitable Trust, St. Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army Nelson, Motueka Community House, Motueka Food Network, supported by many local and central government agencies.

FREE EVENT: Catalytic Thinking - Designing Governance Structures for the Future
Across Aotearoa, community organisations are facing the same governance challenges — heavy compliance loads, limited capacity, and boards stretched thin. What if we could do governance differently? What if leadership could be shared, collaborative, and grounded in relationships rather than structures?
In this 4-hour, in-person workshop, futurist Hildy Gottlieb (co-founder of Creating the Future and developer of Catalytic Thinking) and facilitator May Miller-Dawkins invite you to explore what’s possible when we approach governance through a catalytic lens — one focused on connection, curiosity, and collective strength.
Together we’ll unpack the constraints and assumptions shaping current governance models, and experiment with alternative approaches like shared boards, joint roles, and collaborative decision-making. Expect rich discussion, peer learning, and ideas you can take back to your own organisation, and ideas that the Te Tauihu Community Development Agency might support For-purpose organisations to build together.
Whether you’re a board member, community leader, funder, or For-purpose organisation leader, this is a chance to think boldly about how governance can enable, not exhaust, the work of community.
Your facilitators:
Hildy Gottlieb
Hildy is a futurist, social scientist, and co-founder of Creating the Future. She developed Catalytic Thinking — a framework for creating a future different from our past. A TEDx speaker and contributor to Stanford Social Innovation Review and Nonprofit Quarterly, Hildy helps organisations unlock collective possibility and meaningful change.
May Miller-Dawkins
May is a facilitator and researcher with over 20 years’ experience supporting community groups, social enterprises, and social movements to lead lasting change. Known for her work on collective leadership and governance innovation, May brings global experience — from The B Team to Toitū Tahua — and deep roots in Aotearoa’s for-purpose sector.

NBS Strong Community Symposium
IMPACT: Deepen Your Purpose, Strengthen Our Community.
Registrations close: 9pm, Monday 27 October
In our fast-changing world, the not-for-profit and for-purpose sectors are often asked to achieve extraordinary things with limited resources.
The 2025 NBS Strong Community Symposium is a dedicated day for community leaders, volunteers and change-makers. It’s a vital space to gain the tools, inspiration and connections you need to multiply your organisation’s impact and build a truly resilient future.
This year’s theme, Impact, explores two vital pathways for strengthening your work: Amplify Purpose & Minimise Footprint.
On the Day, You Will Focus On:
Deepening Your Purpose: Explore how to create Intergenerational Impact through a plenary and Iwi panel discussion. You'll learn practical methods for Growing and Measuring Social Impact with the introduction of Tūhono Impact. Crucially, you will also connect with central government priorities and policy during the session led by the Social Investment Agency. Plus, get essential updates on Regional Funding from the key local agencies.
Minimising Your Footprint: Build crucial long-term resilience by addressing Emissions Reduction and gaining strategies for Adapting to Climate Change Events in our region.
Strengthening Your Foundations: Ensure your organisation is protected and prepared with a session on Governance & Compliance, including pending changes for Incorporated Societies.
Our programme is designed to provide valuable insights, practical strategies and clear, actionable steps you can immediately put to work. There will be plenty of time to connect, share ideas and build lasting relationships with others who share your passion.
Whether you're leading a small community group, running a social enterprise or working behind the scenes in governance or communications, the 2025 NBS Strong Community Symposium is your chance to connect, learn and re-energise your critical mission.
This is a paid event. Tickets available here: https://www.commerce.org.nz/event/strong-community
This event is co-hosted by the Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce and TTCDA, and sponsored by NBS and Rata Foundation.
